Important Office Policy Information
Telephone Calls
Call the office if you have a medical problem develop or significantly change that is related to your endocrine condition. (If it is life threatening or very urgent, call 911 or go to an emergency room, and let them call us!) If you feel you need to be seen right away or the same day, please ask the staff member to check with the doctor if there are no openings in the schedule for an urgent appointment. You should call your primary care physician or other established specialists for non-endocrine issues.
Note: Phone is forwarded to Exchange for lunch 12 Noon- 2 PM daily. You may call the voice number, dial '0' during the outgoing message if it is a true emergency to be connected to an operator to have the doctor paged.
Otherwise, wait during the whole boring message, and leave a message after the 'beep'. It will be retrieved after 2 PM.
Important note: Phone calls back from our staff and physicians are often from "blocked" or "private"
phone numbers. Please be sure to answer your phone if you get such a call and are expecting a call from us.
Call the office to schedule or change appointments. We ask that you change appointments at least 24 hours before the time of a scheduled appointment to allow us to use that time for other patients who need to get into the office on short notice. There is a charge of $50 for new appointments changed with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments. That charge is $50 for follow-up appointments, unless there is a real, verifiable emergency preventing you from keeping your appointment.
Call the office to notify us of telephone number, address, or insurance changes. Call the office if there are questions regarding your account or submission of your charges to the correct insurance company. Call the office to get lab results (but not interpretation of lab results) from the staff, or if you wish to have a copy of lab results sent to you.
Telephone calls requesting telephone contact with the physician should be a quick initial contact regarding serious changes in your condition, for reporting back information requested by the doctor at a recent visit or on a recent phone call, or simple instructions relating to a change in therapy in relation to a recent lab result or change in your condition or therapy. All such phone calls require the time and decision making of the physician, documentation in the chart, and often require follow up phone calls to other providers, pharmacies, etc. Longer discussions and complex decisions are best provided at office visits. If you wish or need complex medical care provided over the telephone, and it can be done safely, there will likely be a charge for the phone call. Thus far, none of our contracted insurers or Medicare will pay for such "telemedicine", even if it is entirely appropriate, not related to a recent (less than 1 week) visit, or resulting in a next-available emergency visit. In such cases, a charge will be made for such telephone care, for which you will be responsible.
